What is Reiki?

Reiki is a natural healing energy therapy which is based upon the method of hands-on-healing. It is pronounced 'Ray Key' & means 'Universal Energy'. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy which flows through all living things & is vital to well-being. The practice of Reiki is a method of healing developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century.

It is a holistic system for the body, mind, emotions and spirit and is a gentle & non-invasive complementary therapy. Reiki promotes the self-healing process, pain relief & energy rebalancing.

Reiki has preventitive qualities, so it is great for boosting the immune system. It also acts as a relaxant in people & animals, so is a lovely experience to treat yourself or them to.

How does it do this?

The Reiki energy is channelled through the Practitioner's hands so that they can transmit it to the client . This is carried out by the laying on of hands: on the body, just above the body, from further afield but within the same proximity, or via complete distance (if opting for 'distant healing'). It is totally non-manipulative & no pressure is applied. The Practitioner undertakes a sequence of specific hand positions in order to treat the whole body, which incorporates the chakras & the aura.

What are chakras & the aura?

People & animals have 7 major chakras, which are spinning energy centres that act as vortexes; absorbing & distributing vital energy to where it is needed within the body. When chakras become blocked or unbalanced it affects the body in a negative way. Reiki energy helps to break down these blockages & disruptions, so that the body can rebalance & thus work as it should do in a healthy person or animal. The aura (which is a field of energy that radiates out from the body & is powered by the chakras) is also treated when a healing is taking place, as illness or negativity often begins within this vital layer.
